22 hours after leaving LAX, I had somehow teleported into the future leaving an entire day seemingly to disappear. My brief layover in Manila, Phillipines was filled with jet lagged confusion and strangeness. After deplaning, I was taken to my gate by a staff member rather than walking alone. I’m certain I was the tallest and whitest person. I watched the sun rise, then boarded the next plan to Japan.
I landed in Tokyo, tired, calm, full of fish and rice, and ready for what lie ahead. From the airport, I took an hour train to meet up with friends and walked around only a small area of Tokyo before boarding the bullet train to Kyoto. From Kyoto we did a day trip to Uji by train. After a few days in Kyoto, we headed to Osaka where I spent my last two Japanese days and nights.
